Vertex Visions Hidden Talent Art Exhibition is an annual event set up to support young emerging talent alongside more established artists. All works featured in the online exhibition can be viewed in person at the Barony Centre, West Kilbride, Scotland from Saturday 31st October until Saturday 14th November. Lorna Colquhoun grew up in North Ayrshire and has always had her eyes turned towards the coastline. The play of light and the elements over the Firth of Clyde is a gift that keeps on giving and inspires her every day. While at art school in Dundee she discovered the medium of watercolour, and loves the challenge of using this to capture the shifting moods of the West Coast.
Working from her home studio in Seamill, Karen enjoys experimenting in a wide range of media and techniques. Focusing mainly on portraiture and figurative paintings, she is always on the lookout for interesting compositions and inspiring characters. Her recent work has been capturing and documenting life during lockdown and the "new normal".
Lucy Russell lives and paints in West Kilbride. She paints familiar places and scenes inspired from her local surroundings. Her work has a rhythm of pattern and movement that convey the emotion felt at a particular place or time.
Robbie is currently studying product design engineering at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art. His recent work has been exploring the mental landscapes he found himself in over lockdown. You can view more of Robbies work on his instagram page; grey.grey.creative
Katie Muir is one of our aspiring young artists, sixteen years old from Largs, her talent belies her age, we have no doubt this artist is one to watch. You can see more of Katie's work on Instagram; sketchesbykate
Max McGregor is sixteen years old and lives in West Kilbride. His main passion is filmmaking and he really enjoys photography and experimenting with graphic artwork.
His four submissions were made with a printed ink background, a paint pen and pastels.
Kayley, another of our aspiring young artists, is fifteen. She enjoys drawing using both traditional and digital mediums. Kayley's submissions demonstrate a confidence in illustrative technique.
Emily is currently studying Fashion and Textiles at Glasgow Clyde College specialising in print, weave, knit and embroidery.
